Low Sugar Smoothies That Taste Like Dessert!

Picture of 3 low sugar smoothies with ingredientsHealthy food doesn’t have to be boring, and that’s why I’m sharing these three low-sugar smoothies with you – they actually taste like dessert!! Surprisingly, when you purchase a pre-made smoothie at the store, it’s likely to have more sugar than you would think.

During our normal day, we get enough sugar even without trying. Wherever I can, I make sure what I make doesn’t have any added sugar. And let me tell you, I feel so much better!

My brain fog is gone, my digestion is better, I am even sleeping better. I can’t say that it’s because of these smoothies, but I know that without the added sugar my body thrives.

Black Forest Cake Smoothie

Below, I’ve got three different low sugar smoothies to share: Apple Pie Smoothie, Black Forest Cake Smoothie, and Chocolate Banana Zucchini Bread Smoothie and they really taste amazing!

Each one of these is very healthy, vegan, gluten and refined sugar-free – in fact, the only sugar in these recipes is from the fruit.

Description

These three low-sugar smoothie recipes actually taste like dessert, proving that healthy food doesn’t have to be boring!

Ingredients

Units Scale

Apple Pie Smoothie:

1 small container of plain coconut yogurt, about 5 ounces

1/4 cup of nut milk, I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1/2 of an apple, diced and frozen (any apple will work, although I prefer Granny Smith apples as they are low FODMAP and low-sugar)

3 Tablespoons of unsweetened apple sauce

1 Tablespoon of raw cashews

1 serving size of vanilla plant-based protein powder

1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Black Forest Cake Smoothie:

1 cup of nut milk (I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk)

Serving size of your favorite chocolate plant-based protein powder

1/4 cup of gluten-free rolled oats

1/3 cup of frozen cherries

1/2 zucchini, sliced and frozen

1 Tablespoon of cacao or cocoa powder

1 Tablespoon chia seeds

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate Zucchini Bread Smoothie:

1 cup of unsweetened nut milk

Serving size of your favorite chocolate protein powder

1/2 banana, sliced and frozen

1/2 zucchini, sliced and frozen

1 Tablespoon hemp seeds or 1 Tablespoon of nut butter (or both if you like;)

1 Tablespoon of cacao or cocoa powder

Instructions

The instructions are the same for all of these recipes:

1.) Place ingredients in a blender, starting with the milk and yogurt first then the rest of the ingredients, and blend and enjoy!

Notes

If you are not dairy-free, feel free to use your favorite when protein and dairy-based yogurt.

If you are out of zucchini, try blending fresh spinach – that works too.
