DIY Body Scrub Recipes

Although the Groundhog says we will have a long winter, the weather is saying something different. We all know that Spring and Summer will be here before we know it and that means we will be sporting shorts and sleeveless shirts soon (if you’re not already doing so). So it is time to refresh your dry winter skin and we have just the thing to help you.

  DIY Body Scrubs

We contacted our friend and certified aromatherapist, Mary Hall who is the co-owner of Kalon Botanicals. Mary started her journey into natural skincare after she started to develop adult acne. She tried many products but nothing seemed to work so she started making her own. Soon friends and family were asking for these products too and that is how Kalon Botanicals was born. Together with Mary, we have created two amazing body scrubs that will scrub off those winter blues!

DIY Body Scrub

Citrus Body Scrub

Ingredients:

1 cup fine or medium ground sea salt (we used a mix of pink Himalayan and white sea salt)

1/4 cup Aloe Vera Gel (store leftovers in the refrigerator)

1/4 cup Sunflower Oil

15 drops of Grapefruit essential oil

3 drops of Rosemary essential oil

3 drops of Sage essential oil

Instructions:

In a bowl, combine sea salt, aloe vera gel, and sunflower oil. Stir to combine and add in the essential oils. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. You can certainly choose whatever essential oils you like. We chose these for their healing properties.

Grapefruit is uplifting, relaxing to the mind, and relieves anxiety. It is an antiseptic which is helpful for oily skin and hair. It is high in antioxidants, specifically Vitamin C which helps fight free radicals and boosts the immune system. It also helps move toxins out of the body by stimulating lymph glands. This can help prevent allergies, poor circulation, and fluid retention.

Rosemary relieves stress, tones the skin and helps relieve dryness; even going so far as to be beneficial to eczema and dermatitis sufferers. It is also naturally anti-microbial and antibacterial.

Sage is antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, high in antioxidants. The antioxidants can help with signs of premature aging. Sage is also very balancing for the hormones, especially female hormones making it helpful for sufferers of cramps and PMS. Because of this balancing effect, sage provides mental stability.

Coffee Scrub

Ingredients:

1 cup of coffee grounds

1/2 cup Sunflower oil

1/4 cup of Aloe Vera Gel (store leftovers in the refrigerator)

10 drop of Peppermint essential oil

Instructions:

In a bowl combine coffee grounds, oil and aloe vera get and mix together. Add in peppermint oil or whatever essential oil you like. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 months.

We chose peppermint oil because it provides relief from stress, depression, and exhaustion while stimulating mental activity. It also provides a cooling effect on the skin which can feel good for sore muscles and for overheated bodies in this southern heat 🙂 Peppermint oil also stimulates blood circulation which helps carry oxygen to all parts of the body and leads to better functioning of the body’s systems.
