This coffee smoothie is so much more than your average breakfast smoothie. With coffee, cacao, and collagen, it is the triple threat of breakfasts that will leave you feeling full and focused for hours. We are all so busy these days and with school starting and our schedules getting even busier (how is this even possible?!), we need a go-to arsenal of breakfast ideas that will be fast to make and nourish our body for the morning.
Why We Chose These Ingredients:
We created this recipe for many reasons – smoothies are super easy and fast to make. For some reason, time seems to move more quickly in the morning so anything we can do to help us along with our morning routine, we are all for! But we don’t just want a quick and easy breakfast, we want to fuel our bodies so we can be at our best. This means starting with quality nutritious ingredients.
We chose to add collagen because there are many benefits to using it and our bodies make less of it as we get older. Collagen is a long chain amino acid and is the most abundant protein in our body. It is found in our muscles, bones, skin, tendons, hair and it’s even found in our digestive system. It has been called the “glue” that holds our body together. But sadly collagen decreases with age starting even as early as our 20s and 30s, which is why it is so important to incorporate it into our daily diets.
We used coffee because there are just some mornings we want something more than green tea and it tastes good in this recipe. We also added cacoa powder to give the smoothie that mocha flavor that is so decadent as well as it has nutritional value. Cacao powder has more antioxidants than blueberries (yep, 40 times more!) and is high in iron, magnesium, and calcium. Healthy fats keep us fuller longer as but MCT oil also improve cognitive performance and gives us energy. This is a much better way to get some energy rather than a sugar-filled breakfast that will leave you crashing and craving more sugar in a few short hours.

Description

Ingredients
6 ounces cold brew coffee (any other coffee will do as well, preferably cold)
4 ounces nut milk, we used cashew milk
1/2 Tablespoon of cacao powder
2 Tablespoons collagen peptides ( we used Vital Proteins)
1 Tablespoons MCT oil (we used Bulletproof)
1 Tablespoon powdered peanut butter
1/2 frozen banana
Instructions
1.) Pour the coffee and nut milk in the blender first, then add the other ingredients and process until all is smooth and enjoy!
Notes
If you want a thicker smoothie, add in a small handful of ice cubes.
